The Canaries are no more.
The American Association baseball team announced today its new name will be the Sioux Falls Pheasants.
The Canaries brand, which dated back nearly 70 years, was re-adopted by the Sioux Falls franchise when it helped form the new-era Northern League.

Definitely has that Triple-A look!
For some reason this script reminds me of the Casper Ghosts that Plan B created. Maybe it’s the orange color, but I feel there are some similarities. I’m interested to see what the hats and unis look like.
Erik, you’re right. There are similarities in the script. I’m not a fan of the pheasant illustration. I guess it’s common now, but does EVERY character have to be pissed off? I think Baseball is the one sport where you don’t need that angry mascot. I like the classy logos in baseball.
I agree with mascot opinion. More Mr. Met and Mr. Red….leave the anger to football…
I’ll agree both with 1) the lettering being solid work and 2) the time for intimidating mascots should be done. Or at least debated. I wouldn’t advocate for happy or wacky necessarily. But what about adjectives other then “angry”? Stoic, for example. Dignified. Heroic. This style is aggressive, which was more suited for an age when Xtreme sports and Xtreme energy drinks weren’t passe. I don’t see many No Fear or Bad Boy Club window stickers anymore. It’s time the design community discontinues this practice as well.
Personally, I like happy over angry.
I’ll take Cleveland’s Indian over Toronto’s Blue Jay. Oakland’s Raider over Baltimore’s Raven. Boston’s Celtic over Charlotte’s Bobcat.
